Alex Duckles
Alex Duckles manages impact and digital strategy for the PBS Nature series, "Wild Hope,” and recently launched a partnership with HHMI BioInteractive to create the latest series of “Crash Course: Biology” on YouTube. He has been producing, distributing and writing for digital series and educational media for 12 years. At HHMI Tangled Bank Studios he has managed impact campaigns and video production for “Blue Whales: Return of the Giants, “My Garden of a Thousand Bees,” “Rise of the Mammals,” and “The Serengeti Rules.” Duckles began his work at HHMI as a Science Education Fellow in 2016 working on the award-winning YouTube series “IContain Multitudes” about the human microbiome, starring best-selling author Ed Yong.
In 2014, Duckles joined PBS Education and later PBS Digital Studios, working as a producer on acclaimed digital series including “The Good Stuff” and “Full-Time Kid.” While at the University of Otago, Duckles focused his research on narrative models of science storytelling, and produced an award-winning feature documentary on destructive algae blooms.
Duckles studied ecology and filmmaking at Dartmouth College before heading to New Zealand to earn a master’s degree in science communication.
